Playground
With engaging structures that illustrate Hawaiian history, the Anaina Hou Playground inspires independent child play. They’ll climb, move, and run on replicas of a volcano, sailing canoe, and a sugarcane train.
The playground is open daily 9am - 7pm.
The Kauai North Shore Dog Park
Located in the Wai Koa Plantation in Kilauea, your dogs have a comfortable place to run off-leash, exercise, and socialize. In the winter months, it is sometimes necessary to enter the Wai Koa Loop Trail from the Kauai North Shore Dog Park due to wet conditions at the Community Park entrance.
The dog park is operated solely with proceeds from donations and memberships. More info here.
Wai Koa Loop Trail
The Wai Koa Loop is a 4.5-mile trail that is wide and mostly flat through the lush Kilauea Forest and the largest mahogany plantation in North America. As you enjoy breathtaking views of the Namahana Mountains in the distance, the trail winds through lush forests, lagoons, and streams. One of the standout features of this trail is the iconic “Stone Dam,” a centuries-old structure that reflects the island’s rich history and culture. For the adventurous, there are ropes that you can swing on and jump into the reservoir. If you do not feel like swinging, you can still jump in for a refreshing dip.
The Wai Koa Loop Trail is open to the public from 8am to dusk. Plan on 2-4 hours for the hike. If you're accessing the trail Friday - Sunday, consider stopping by the Anaina Hou Welcome Center on your way for some water, sunblock, snacks, or other last-minute trail supplies to take with you.
